Elizabeth Mance

graduate intern

Hi! I’m Beth, a graduate intern in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Oakland University. I work with teens and adults- supporting individuals who are navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, and the emotional weight that can come with stress, transitions, and feeling disconnected from yourself.

My approach to therapy is holistic, trauma-informed, and humanistic, drawing from CBT while also incorporating somatic practices and mind-body awareness. I believe healing is most effective when we look at the whole person and explore how thoughts, emotions, and lived experiences are held not only in the mind, but also in the body. Together, we may explore patterns, build coping skills, and increase emotional regulation in ways that feel manageable and supportive.

I bring a strong wellness-oriented lens into my work, emphasizing the importance of balance, self-care, and sustainable coping strategies. My background as a certified personal trainer and coach has deepened my understanding of the mind-body connection and informs my work with athletes and individuals who are navigating performance pressure, identity, or high expectations—both from others and from themselves.

In our work together, I strive to create a warm, collaborative, and supportive space where you feel safe to show up as you are. My goal is to help you reconnect with your strengths, develop greater self-trust, and move toward healing in a way that feels aligned with your values and overall well-being.

A little about me…

Outside of being a counselor, I’m also a mom—which is one of the most important (and humbling) roles in my life. I love staying active, whether that’s strength training, practicing handstands, or flowing through yoga. I also coach kids in fitness, which brings so much fun and energy into my week. At home, you’ll usually find me dancing around the kitchen with music on while I cook, or unwinding with a paint-by-numbers and a good playlist. I really value those little moments of joy, movement, and creativity—and I try to bring that same real, human energy into the space I share with clients.
